…..Says No one has been Expelled

The Ogun state chapter of People’s Democratic Party, PDP under the leadership of the state chairman, Mr. Samson Bamgbose has described as “irrational and contradictory” the purported suspension of some members of the party by different splinter groups within the state chapter of the party in conniviance with some external forces.

In a statement released by state secretary of the party, Rapheal Olaosebikan, the party described as action of the action as an ugly scenario of usurpation of functions of the SEC, “the irrational gales of suspension and expulsion of some members of the party by two groups in contradiction of themselves within the party.

Olaosebikan expressed worry as to the intent of some party members a leaders “to disunite the party over unmitigated ambitions particularly at this electioneering period when the unity of members of the party should be of uppermost importance.”

About two weeks ago, a breakaway group from the Sikirullahi Ogundele faction had announced the suspension of an aspirant of the party and some members of the executive on allegations that they acted in flagrant disobedience of the subsisting court judgement which produced the current executives of the party.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta on Tuesday and co-signed by the Financial Secretary and Assistant State Treasurer of the party, Hon. Bola Odumosu, and Mrs. Akibu Oriyomi (a.k.a Irorun) respectively, the party said the suspended members (Hon. Ladi Adebutu, the acting Chairman, Hon. Taiwo Akinlabi, State Secretary, Hon. Sunday Solarin, state publicity secretary, Mr. Akinloye Bankole, and Ogun East senatorial chairman, Arc. Kayode Adebayo) were found guilty of contravening the terms of settlement entered in the consent judgement that birthed the current executives of the party in the state.

In a possible retaliation to Adebutu and others suspension, on Tuesday, the PDP led by Hon. Sikirullahi Ogundele faction announced the expulsion of a governorship aspirant of the party, Otunba Jimi Lawal for gross misconduct, forgery, anti-party activities and disobedience to party’s constitution with a claim that Jimi Lawal’s expulsion followed recommendations by the NWC and NEC set-up disciplinary committee, headed by Barrister Tola Odulaja.

Others expelled alongside Jimi Lawal are: Muyiwa Odebiyi, Moruf Olajide and Ademola Ojoye.

While reacting to Jimi Lawal’s suspension, Austin Oniyokor, Project Director, Jimi Adebisi Lawal Campaign Organization (JALCO), said the expulsion “the purported suspension and illegal expulsion are comical acts taken too far”.

“This is a joke taken too far. Indeed, it is illegality upon illegality, all amounting to illegalities. How can these people take such a step when the initial illegal act is already a subject of litigation at the Federal High Court, Abeokuta; and the parties, including the active participants had been served the court summons”, Oniyokor stated.

Olaosebikan then warned “that the tolerance and accommodation by the current Ogun PDP state exco of actions of some notable members that are outreaching themselves is to avoid disunity and dismemberment of our great party as is unfortunately now being unreasonably propelled. Henceforth, the SEC shall act decisively against these erring members if caution is not adopted by conformity with provisions of the party’s constitution and rule of law.”

A Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta had ordered fresh primaries into all elective positions of Ogun state chapter PDP over non-compliance of existing court judgements that gave the state chapter of the party to organize and conduct the primaries into all elective positions in the state.
